Harry Potter - Other Love Interests: Harry and...
Hermione Granger
This is probably the most popular ship out there after R/Hr and H/G (IMO, after OOTP you'd be blind not to see these two). I really can't see this happening - especially not with the whomping amount of R/Hr evidence in GoF alone. Not only in that book, but in all of the previous books there is a good healthy dose of R/Hr banter and tension. There's an important difference between the dynamics of R/H and H/H - the former has chemistry and the latter lacks it in great amounts. H/Hr is reminescent of a brother/sister relationship - and on certain occasions Hermione can be seen as showing motherly concern for Harry. I suppose in a way this can be interpreted as affection between the two, but as far as I'm concerned it is NOT romantic affection. Also, H/Hr'ers seem to have figured out an ingeniuous way to enable themselves to not only ignore canon hints of R/Hr but the infamous "platonic" quote by JKR herself. Quite possibly the rest of us lack the ability to see past that and read into all the subtle H/Hr subtext...
Cho Chang
Well, I must say this ship is the one with the most evidence going for it. Harry definitely likes Cho, and that's more than anyone can say for any other ship involving him. In GoF it's difficult to determine whether the feelings are reciprocated, but I think it's safe to assume Cho doesn't mind his attention and is flattered by it (once again, more than any other ship) - for this reason I can understand why there are still H/C shippers - but not now, not after OOTP. H/C has been good as shot down and I'm not too upset ;). There was too much standing in the way of this relationship being sucessful anyway - what with Cedric's death and Harry's traumatic past... both Cho and Harry are victims of horrible events. If they were to be together at least one of the two would have to stand strong and be able to look past what has happened to him/her, in order to pull the other person out of wallowing in misery. Those of you who have read OOTP will recognize what I mean when I say Cho and Harry cannot be happy together, they will simply be stuck in a relationship that dwells far too much on things they shouldn't dwell upon. (As Dumbledore once said... "It does not do, Harry, to dwell upon dreams and forget to live..." [PS, SS]) I suppose if both Harry and Cho gain closure on their problems, there is a chance on H/C working out but personally I doubt it very much.
Luna Lovegood
The latest ship to set sail with OoTP! Although I don't ship H/L, I can see a lot of reasons why people would, and reasons why it could even work. For one, both Harry and Luna are outcasts (for different reasons, obviously, but outcasts the same) and can relate to each other on this point. They've also both lost a parent, Harry both his mother and father, Luna her mother. In one scene, Luna recounts how she died, and says to Harry that she doesn't think she'll never see her mother again, which raises some curious questions (?) that I'll not discuss here. Because of this, only Harry and Luna can see the Thestrals ( invisible horselike creatures that pull the carriages from the Hogwarts Express stop to the Castle), who are only visible to those who have witnessed death. This is a MAJOR bonding point. However, personality wise, Harry and Luna aren't particularly compatible. Harry is serious, quiet, with a dry edge of humour, where Luna is a little bizarre and quirky. Harry sees Luna as someone who is strange, but kind-hearted, and he pities her at the end of OoTP when he finds out people have stolen her belongings. There is little chemistry between them, and neither are truly romantically inclined towards the other. Luna seems to have a sort of crush on Ron, however. ;)
Parvati Patil
One date to the Yule ball does not automatically equate life long matrimonial happiness, everyone. I don't really understand this ship, nor do I really think it's ever going to happen outside of fanon. No point in discussing this, really.
Draco Malfoy
This should speak for itself. I am not against slash, I don't think there is anything wrong with shipping male/male characters, but I don't think it's likely in the least. Unless you think JKR will surprise us all with slash in canon, I seriously doubt the chances of H/D ever happening. That and I'm quite certain Harry is not gay. I can't speak for other people, though... ;)
