Ginny Weasley
By Gily AnnRecently I was searching through the internet, found too much of my disappointment the amount of Ginny hate that there was out there. Bill and Charlie seemed more popular than her. But what it surprised even more was that many of them claimed her to be an underdeveloped character. So I asked: Why do you hate her if she's underdeveloped? You can only hate what you know and we don't know her according to their explanation. I never got a straight answer. So I decided to find what we do know about her, and surprised myself with the amount of information, we do have about her, but it's often overlooked. It really is about quality and not quantity. The first time we see Ginny is on platform 9 ¾. She is the first female under thirty that we see on the books. She is there with her mother Mrs. Weasley. And on this scene we get the impression of Ginny being around eight to nine years old, although we later find out she's actually ten. We don't hear anything from Ginny but once inside the platform Ginny is informed that they boy that she just saw, was none other than Harry Potter. Like her brothers and everybody else in the wizarding world, she seemed eager to see him again. She asks if she could go in the train to see him and her mother tells her that she can't because she is too young. This reaffirms our image of her of an around eight to nine old girl, which she actually isn't. Now, many claim that Ginny's "crush" began in here when she finds out who the boy is. I disagree Ginny's "crush" didn't begin in here. She may have liked Harry but a full "crush" just because he was the boy who lived. I don't see it that way. Otherwise she would have behaved the same way for the rest of the books. I compare this as when you see a movie star and you want to take a second look at them. She was extremely curious to see him again, yes. But Ginny does not behave like a fan girl thru the books. When the train is about to go Ginny starts crying when saying goodbye to her brothers. We see how her brothers try to console her showing us how much they care about her, although we do find out how much they teased her. When the trains is moving we see this girl running along with the train half crying, half laughing waving good bye to her brothers. All of this while Harry is secretly watching. This scene is showing us what a free spirit she has, because God knows I would not get near a moving train. Now I don't know how many people thought of it. But the image of the train in a comparison of the other two images we see of Ginny in book one, never made sense to me. In one she is endearing, emotional, happy, free spirit on the next she is annoying, childish and immature. It was like watching a different girl in all three. On our last image of Ginny on book one. JKR ruins our lovely image of Ginny on the train by putting her to behave really childish by gaping and pointing at Harry like he was some king of Circus spectacle. I believe this image has stuck with people until this day and have lead them to believe that she would be at his feet, because her "crush". But at this point I still don't think it's a full "crush". Her attraction started sometime later, and we will see how soon. On the next book Ginny's first appearance is when she sees Harry for the first time after the train station incident. She sees him and runs off squealing. Given the age she is in this book, I consider it normal. I mean not too many eleven year olds would consider having any person see them on their pajamas. Her shyness and hiding could be considered normal for her age and the situation. But this also brings me to the next point. If last time Ginny saw Harry she was pointing at Harry and screaming 'there he is'. Why did she change her attitude? She certainly didn't have any shame the last time she saw him? Then why all of sudden she seems so embarrass to see him? All thru the chapters she seemed to have an inability to even speak to him. We will see find the answer to this question and others soon. Ron claims that Ginny has been talking about Harry all summer. Now some people including myself said how could she been talking about him if she only saw him twice? But I most point that is here when the idea of a "crush" is suggested to us. JKR tries to implants on our head that since Ginny doesn't know Harry then she talks about him because what he is. She talks about his fame. When the reality is another one and we will see that in a moment. Next first we have the 'bright brown eyes' scene on which Harry sees the eyes thru a door. Ron points out 'Ginny' so the brown eyes belong to Ginny. Really nice description of some one eyes. They sound pretty! Ron points out to Harry that Ginny normally never shuts up. So why is she being so embarrass? Aside from her supposed, "crush". Is almost like she is scared of him. Our next appearance is on the breakfast table were Mr. Weasley claims that "Ron told us so much about you" and here is the answer to our questions. Was it Ron or was it Ginny the one that was talking about Harry? Since sometimes we can't take a character's word for it. In this case common sense tells me that I should believe Mr. Weasley initially and that perhaps is Ron may have been exaggerating a little bit. So if Ron had told them all about Harry, Ginny must have been there. I have no doubt that even the twins thru in, occasionally their two cents to the conversation. So it wasn't Ginny who had been talking about him, Ron was the one who started and Ginny was probably asking about Harry or making assumptions on Harry's personality. And since evidence points that Ginny is a smart girl (we will explain later) then by all means she could have been right. So this explains the 'she has been talking about you all summer." Maybe Ron was not accurate. Even if Ron was not talking all the time about Harry, one very important incident described Harry's personality. Neville's Rememberall. Which is the also the incident, that causes Harry to join the Quidditch team. The incident tells us how he doesn't like teasing he doesn't know about how big his fame is among the many of them. Maybe Ginny was asking questions that summer about Harry and "talking" about Harry's personality based on what Ron was saying. Which cause for Ron to say that she was talking about Harry, just because she was making the right assumptions on Harry's personality. I believe that it was in the summer while her brother talk about how Harry was, that Ginny's attraction then began. In reality it looks like what really attracted Ginny was how Harry sounded at the words of her brothers. It was the way Harry was. What called Ginny's attention. His personality based on what Ron was saying. Harry first visit to The Burrow just confirm what she assumed. Yes he was "the boy who lived" but let's not forget that Harry is not actually a normal boy. The fact that she never pointed at him again and didn't even speak to him showed that she had learned her lesson that Harry didn't like the fame that came with his name. Something that is really important to Harry. He hates his fame and by Ron's words Ginny clearly got that right. But this isn't a crush like a real crush is supposed to be. On the books we are lead to believe it is a crush. But is it? According to the dictionary a crush is defined as: A usually temporary infatuation. Infatuation is defined as a foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction. But Ginny's attraction is not foolish because he saved her live and Harry has wonderful qualities. And it's not unreasoning because she knows how Harry personality really is and certainly Ginny does not show an extravagant passion or attraction. Ginny never runs around behind Harry trying to get his attention. So why do we say this a crush? Because JKR makes us believe it is. What Ginny really feels is real attraction. Making us believe Ginny has a crush it was JKR technique to makes us disregard Ginny as a possibility for being Harry's partner. This since her "Crush" is "supposed" to be based on Harry's fame, which is something Harry doesn't like, but in reality it isn't. We can safely say that by the words of her brothers Ginny got to know the real Harry before actually spending five minutes alone with him. I would like to point out here that this could also have started as simply physical attraction if Ginny found Harry cute the fact that there was a lot of Harry Potter talk in her home was enough to send this girl's emotions sky high. But I believe it simply started just because Harry sounded like a really nice guy. We have to remember she is eleven there. How many guys you know at eleven that are cute, sensible and have so many good qualities like Harry. She lives on a home with six brothers all of them who teased her and bother her. Harry must have sound like prince charming at that age. With out anybody noticing the talking was feeding her emotions on how Harry was such a nice person until it became a feeling when he visit the burrow and she confirmed how he was. This can also explain her shyness and hiding. Imagine having feelings on a guy as wonderful as Harry and finding this guy is really humble and shy and so great. And then realize that last time he saw you. You were behaving like a true idiot. Anything is embarrassing when you are eleven. This is huge embarrassment! No wonder she is hiding, seriously I would have locked myself up in my room and never come out. She probably though that Harry though of her as an little fan girl for the way she behaved. Ginny must think that Harry may never like her because of the way she behaved. Harry has been humiliated all his life and Ginny has been teased all of hers. She sees in him someone unable of doing something she hates, teasing. On the next image Ginny is at the table when Harry comes in and she accidentally knocks her porridge down. We get pointed out that Ginny seems very prone to knocking things whenever Harry is around which shows us that she gets nervous around him. Typical for a person that likes another one. One curious thing is that if Harry knows that Ginny is prone to do those things around him then he must have been looking at her, a lot to be able to deduct that. For all he knows she could just be clumsy like Neville. But he seems sure that is only when he is around. If you are sure is because you have looked more than twice and let's face Harry is slow catching up to things sometimes. He wasn't that slow on this, though! Next when the letters from Hogwarts arrived and everybody is fussing about the cost of Lockhart's books. Mrs. Weasley points out that she expects to get most of Ginny's things second hand. Let me just point out what an extremely embarrassing situation this is. Here you have the most amazing guy you have ever met, your nerves are possessing you, and your mother points out that she is going to go buy you, your school stuff second hand. Even Harry was already embarrassed that he was going to have to go with Dudley's clothes to the new school, and he didn't have anybody that liked him at that moment. Lord, open that earth and swallow her in! Definitely mothers do embarrass their children! But now we know that Ginny is going into Hogwarts. Harry ask her and she when she nodded she stick her elbow on the butter dish. Harry pretends not to have seen this and he seems happy that nobody else did notice it. He seems already too concern about this whole clumsy thing that Ginny has around him. But this also points out something very important. If Ginny understand that Harry doesn't like his fame. Harry clearly understands something very important to Ginny. She hates teasing. He is glad that nobody noticed because he knows by now how much it stresses her out and he also knows how does it feel to be teased. He can relate to her feelings. Interesting. Next in Flourish and Blotts when Harry gets presented with the stack of Lockhart's books he escapes and goes in the corner were Ginny is. He then proceeds to give her the books saying that he would buy his own. Notice that he was the one that went there. He was making conversation but Malfoy interrupted this. That's when Ginny opens her mouth for the first time and says "leave him alone he didn't want all that," And here is the proof of what I have been explaining. Ginny understood clearly that Harry doesn't like his fame and that he doesn't look for it. But it follows him even when he doesn't want it. She had not talk to him. This proves what I explained earlier. She got to know the real Harry without having to spend five minutes alone with him. It also says she is really observant. Also it tells us that she is brave, even with all her nerves she still manages to answer to Malfoy. But it also points to us again that she really doesn't like teasing and with all her nerves she is still willing to stand for it, in order to avoid it. Because that was what Malfoy was doing. But then Malfoy points 'Potter, you got yourself a girlfriend' and she goes to her usual blushing. Everybody has a week spot and now we know Ginny's. She is unable to answer him, because Malfoy has teaser her for daring to speak, she feels embarrassed. She feels humiliated. I also need to point out that Harry doesn't say anything either to Malfoy about the whole statement. It doesn't seem like Ron and Hermione got there immediately so why didn't he say something. Malfoy is one of the few people that gets the bad monster out on Harry but Harry seems all to calm in this scene. Not too many twelve year olds will stay quiet on a statement like this. It's suspicious. Once in Hogwarts and after Harry's and Ron small adventure they arrived just in time for the sorting ceremony. Thru the 'forest of pointed black Hogwarts hats', Harry spots Ginny because of her 'famous Weasley hair'. This is curious since he points out that everybody was wearing hats. I wonder how he spotted her hair. Either, she has one big and long mop of hair or Harry already knows Ginny at distance because he spots her among all the people just because of her hair. When the sorting ceremony it's beginning we get interrupted and are not allowed to see more than just the first boy being called. So we don't know how much time it took the sorting hat to sort Ginny or if they had any trouble. I wonder this because since Ginny was already writing on that diary wouldn't it be confusing having a Slytherin mind on that head but also have a Gryffindor mind. I wonder why JKR cuts us from seeing her sorting ceremony? Does anybody smell suspicion, like I do? Did we get cut off from the sorting ceremony because it hides a clue? or did we get cut off because JKR seemed eager to punish Harry with Snape wonderful presence? I would love to know! We found later that Ginny has been sorted into Gryffindor known for bravery, not a surprise since we witness the Malfoy incident. On chapter seven of book two, while Harry is visiting Hagrid on the slugs incident. We find that Ginny has been lurking around the grounds looking for Harry. Or so Hagrid says. In reality she wasn't. She was actually looking for the roosters. Hagrid just caught her and he assumed wrongfully. But could this be one of those instances were Ginny could have been spotted under Riddle's control and nobody noticed? If Ginny was looking for the roosters then she must have been under Riddle's control. Did Riddle used the information that Ginny gave him to make it look like Ginny was searching for Harry just to avoid anybody getting suspicious? Maybe it was. Because When Hagrid shows his pumpkins and Hermione suggests an Engorgement Charm, Hagrid tells us that Ginny suggested the same thing yesterday when he met her. So Hagrid didn't know her until yesterday, then how comes he knows that she was looking for Harry or that she wouldn't say no to an autograph from Harry, or that she was looking for him. Again we are lead to believe that this is a crush by this. But I don't think Hagrid should be counted as a reliable source after what we just discovered. It sounds like someone was playing with somebody here and let's face Riddle already knew Hagrid. Need to say more? Maybe not, I think we all got the picture. But if Ginny suggested the same thing as Hermione did, then we can only safely say that Ginny could very well be as smart as Hermione. Let's keep in mind that Ginny is a year or maybe two years younger than Hermione. And her assumptions on Harry were correct; she did knew that Harry didn't want all the publicity on the bookstore. So it's confirmed now. Ginny is smart. After the attacks we see Fred and George mocking and teasing Harry about him on the chamber situation. We once again hear Ginny "Oh, don't" and showing us once again how much she really despises teasing. On chapter sixteen we are told that it was past midnight when George, Fred and Ginny went to bed. Which brings me to the next point. Ginny seems to get along nicely with Fred and George even with their teasing, she also seems to get along nice with Percy, so why is Ginny being kept apart from other people? She doesn't seem to have any friends because she is usually with one of her brothers, alone or with Hermione. It sounds like she is being kept alone on purpose. Another thing that strikes me as curious is the fact that JKR keeps on mentioning her by name and last name together. We keep on being reminded that Ginny is a Weasley. It's very strange that almost no one else; gets called by name and last name all thru the books. Not even Bill or Charlie, yet Ginny it is constantly referred to as 'Ginny Weasley' or the only girl, or the youngest child. We know she is a Weasley, that she is the only girl and that she is the youngest. Why the constant reminder? Is there something more of Ginny's that we don't know that it has something to do with her and being a Weasley? Does being the youngest Weasley is important? Many claim that the Singing Valentine was sent out by Ginny but I disagree. We hear from Harry how Fred and George kept teasing him about the words of the singing Valentine. Which is extremely suspicious since they weren't there. When the Valentine was given to Harry. Nobody else seemed to remember the words of the dreadful thing, but they did. Also the words are simply not poetic, if we examined them closely. "His eyes are green as a fresh pickled toad" Off all the things to compare Harry's eyes. Like the greens of a field or a flower or so many wonderful things a toad is used for it, and not just any toad, a PICKLED one. Who according to the dictionary on informal connotation it's used as a disagreeable or troublesome situation. So Harry's eyes according to this not only look like a toad they are also ugly. Next is the "His hair is as dark as a blackboard" Ok, the night would have been more poetic than a blackboard. Darkness is more poetic, heck even death is poetic at this point. There are many things that are black that are more poetic than a blackboard. Next it's the "I wish he was mine, he's really divine. The hero that conquered the dark lord." First Harry's is compared to a ugly frog a blackboard and then it wishes it owned him. Well who want a kid that has the hair of a blackboard and the eyes of an ugly frog. He sounds awful! Eleven year olds are poetic and artistic, especially Ginny. If she would have sent the valentine then she would have been more poetic and a little bit more creative, like she was on the Dementors attack. Yes the card singed shrilly but at least it wasn't insulting him or we would have known about it. One thing that strikes me as curious is that even thought Ginny goes around with Fred and George he seems to confide to Ron. Because he went to him when she realized what was happening with the diary. Percy had shared with her important information; she was with Fred and George most of the time. Yet when she has a problem we see her go to Ron. Ron seems to be a really reasonable guy, among all the six brothers. And Ron seems really affected when she is taken to the chambers. This brings me to the next point. After it's discovered that Ginny is the one that has been taken into the chambers the day is described for Harry as: "It was probably the worst day of Harry's entire life." Now why this is of all other moments, the worst. I would highly consider the night that Cedric die and Voldemort came back the worst but yet this is the one is consider the worst. Why? He doesn't have any connection with Ginny. Sure he felt bad for the Weasley's, but I don't consider this enough to be the worst day of his life. I would even consider it the worst day when he found out in Moody's class how his parents died. So it strikes me as curious that this is considered to be the worst day of Harry's life. Also it's curious that when he sees the "Sun sinking, blood red, below the skyline" He claims that this is the worst he had ever felt. Wow, Harry's seems really affected by Ginny's apparent death. One thing that is curious is that he feels that way just after watching the red sun. Did the sun remind him of Ginny? Odd isn't. Harry seems to have too many emotions into this. And when Ron considers some hope that Ginny is still alive. Harry seems to be lost for words. His mind seems clouded enough not to see some hope that Ginny could somehow still be alive. Even though he claimed earlier that if there was something they could do. Curious, Harry seems to be having problems to have straight thoughts in his mind. After they discover the entrance to the chamber of secrets. Ron apparently has a scare when seeing how it opens. Yet Harry seems to have made up his mind with only the hope of finding Ginny alive. Mind me, what a humble and giving guy Harry is. He seems to go too much out of his way for somebody that he hardly has talk too just for the fact that she is 'Ron's sister' or a 'Weasley child'. Like I have heard many say. Once inside the chambers Ron steps into a rat skull, yet this seem to creep up the fright on Harry because we are told that: "Harry lowered his wand to look at the floor and saw that it was littered with small animal bones. Trying very hard not to imagine what Ginny might look like if they found her," Why is the panic getting the better of Harry? He seems to be awfully scared that they won't find Ginny alive. Next when the amount of rocks separated them. He doesn't seem to have much hesitation to leave Ron alone with Lockhart to find Ginny. He seems to be on a hurry to get to her just to see if she's okay. Harry seems awfully nervous in this situation comparing it with the situations on other books. Once inside the chambers Harry finally spots Ginny he runs to her and drops his wand. But before he even sees her face, because we are told she is face down. Harry is already saying "Ginny - don't be dead --please don't be dead" It almost sounds like his pleading and praying. When Harry realizes that she is not petrified but she still won't move he seems to get desperate and he shakes her, to the point that her head loops from side to side. Talk about desperation, keep on moving her like that and her neck is going to snap. Compare to other situations Harry is loosing his nerves in here. This almost sounds like he has some kind of repressed emotions towards Ginny. He seems really desperate to see her alive. Wonder why? again. He still had not talk to her more than a few times. His emotions are going a bit too far just because she is Ron's sister and a Weasley child. Sure he knows a few things about her but Harry's emotions are much more powerful than in other occasions. Could Harry have feelings for Ginny and he has not realized yet? Maybe he likes her who knows? As of Book four we still don't know what he thinks of her aside from the wonderful adjectives that he is always using to describe her. When Tom Riddle appears and clarifies to him that she won't wake up Harry can't even ask properly if she's dead or not. But when Riddle tells him that she is still alive read how senses slowly seemed to come back to him. But he is still desperate and tries to get her out of there asking for the help of a memory to carry Ginny. Can ghost or memory's do that? When Harry realizes that there is something wrong with the whole Riddle business then he decides to listen to Riddle and finally ask how did Ginny got that way. Which is an extremely good question because we now by Riddle's words that it's because of the diary. But how come Ginny is still alive? Is clear that Riddle planned on killing her. So why didn't he? Is it because he needed to slowly suck her soul out? It sounds too convenient for a HP book. Maybe it was it because he felt sorry for her. Another possibility is that perhaps he just couldn't kill her. Riddle calls the basilik on Harry, but how come he didn't try it on Ginny first. He had been alone with her all day she was hopeless on the floor. Why not finish her off and suck her soul out once and for all. In fact why not do it in front of Harry. When Harry got there Riddle almost sounded frustrated that Harry took so long. Why? Is there something special that Ginny has that is not wise to kill her? Doesn't the fact that Ginny is still alive sound odd? As far as we know they are a few people that Riddle alias Voldemort never wanted to kill or couldn't kill. Ginny just got added to that list. Harry's mother was the first, which at this point we still don't know why he didn't want to kill her. And second was Harry. Which he was never able to kill, because of his mother's sacrifice. Riddle had good reasons not to leave Ginny alive, she already knew too much. Did he ever try to kill her? Perhaps he didn't because wouldn't Riddle had vanished if he had tried to kill her and failed? Then maybe he never tried. But why is the question? Is there another parallel between Lily and Ginny besides the red hair? Is this how are we learning about Lily thru Ginny? Maybe whatever Lily was Ginny is. Perhaps they have the same power. Who knows! Anyway Riddle starts mocking Ginny. We then get to know that Ginny had confide to Riddle that her brothers teased her, that she had to come to school on second hand robes and apparently Ginny doesn't think that Harry will ever like her. So it's now confirmed that Ginny doesn't like teasing and like Ron she is embarrassed also about having to come to school on second hand clothes (who wouldn't) and Ginny is not expecting Harry ever to like her. Interesting! Is this one of those clues of what's coming but it's giving on a negative way, so we won't think of this as a possibility. I find it really interesting that Ginny confide to Riddle that no one ever understood her the way he did. Off course we know he was faking it. He even prides himself that he has always been able to enchant the people he has needed. But it seems like Ginny can't find anybody that understand her really. I wonder why that is? Up until know she seems like a regular girl to me. But we may have some of our answers when Riddle explained how he got stronger. He says he grew stronger on a diet of Ginny's deepest fears and darkest secrets. So what deepest fear or darkest secrets could an eleven year old girl that has been extremely protected have. I seriously doubt that in a house with nine people including yourself you could keep any secrets at all. What are these darkest secrets? And what deepest fears could this girl have that were able to feed a memory back to live? Seems like they are very powerful. But Riddle also clarifies that he was able to pour a little of his soul back to her and feed Ginny a few of his secrets. So I ask how can a memory have a soul? It looks like we are going to hear about this at some point in the future. And Riddle fed Ginny some of his secrets? Oh I want to meet this girl and put her on a trance to see if she remembers anything. She must have lots of great information on Riddle. Why hasn't anybody used her for that? Or maybe that's what it's to come. Next Riddle clarifies to Harry that Ginny was the one who opened the chambers, strangled the roosters, daubed threatening messages on the walls and set the serpents on the Mudbloods and the cat. But he also clarifies that Ginny didn't know what she was doing at first but realize it a while afterwards. We never get to know how does this whole thing is done. Riddle didn't have any wand so he couldn't have put her under an imperious course. So how did he manage to get her to do all of that stuff? Riddle seems clear that it was her that did it. So was it her or was it him. Like people claim. We never get a straight answer to this from Dumbledore or anybody else. I get the feeling JKR hide something from us here. This seems unfinished totally unlike JKR writing. When Riddle finishes mocking Ginny about the new diaries entries Harry is already so angry that his fist are clenched and his nails are digging into his palm. But this doesn't seem to stop Riddle who now calls Ginny stupid. By Harry's reaction we also see that he doesn't like teasing either. because Harry's anger is described to be cursing thru him. Harry's is having a very hard time dealing with his emotions we see how he can really relate to Ginny's hate of teasing or is it something else. Riddle explains that Ginny had stole the diary back scared that Riddle would repeat Ginny's secrets to Harry or even worst tell him who had been strangling the roosters and doing all the stuff at school. Which brings me to next couple of points after Ginny steals the diary back. The first is what are this secrets that Ginny is so scared about anybody finding out. Could they be that terrible and powerful. Or is she afraid that they teased her? Because, Ginny steels the diary from Harry. I don't think that a girl with a crush would do something like that to her hero. The second is how horrible it must have been for Ginny to realize that she actually killed the roosters, that she was the one setting the Basilisk on people. It also brings me to the point of how did she realized it was her. Ginny really must be very smart to finally make the connection between the diary and herself. But it also brings a very complicated point. How did Riddle actually possessed Ginny? He couldn't and didn't have a wand again, so was this a mental possession? We never get a full explanation for this or the repercussions that this could have in the future. How was this possible it's never explain. Also there is the point when Ginny is writing her own farewell. Riddle says that he made her come 'here' so it means that Ginny actually went down to the chambers, the basilisk never took her. But if he made her come down there and write her own farewell, means that she was under his control. But then Riddle says then that 'She struggled and cried and became very boring. But there isn't much life left in her.." If she was under his control how could she struggle and from what was she struggling if Riddle was a memory and the control appear to be on her head. Ginny must be very strong to be able to fight mentally or physically a Basilisk or a memory. If we assume that was what she was struggling against. This whole thing is not clear and JKR is not the writer to leave a plot hanging so we will hear about this again, I have no doubt. After Harry kills the basilisk. He eliminates Riddle by poking the diary. Ginny wakes up, then. This interesting. What happens with the part of the soul that Riddle pour to Ginny? Is this the very important thing that happened in the chamber that JKR has been talking about? Harry poking the diary. If Riddle and Ginny were sharing the same soul then when Riddle disappear the part of his soul could have gone back to Ginny. We are hearing about this later. I have no doubt, now. But back to chamber. Once awaken she explained that the last she remembered was Riddle coming out of the diary. This really makes no sense because when Harry used the diary the diary took him in, so how did he get out of the diary? This diary thing seems really diverse. Ginny claims she had been waiting to get into Hogwarts ever since Bill came and she is totally freaked out she is going to be expelled. Ginny also seems to be really concern about what would her family would go thru just because of what she has done. When Harry is helping Ginny get up, notice how JKR uses the same phrase she used in PoA when Hermione thru her arms at Ron when their fight. It says he patted her head, "awkwardly". Harry helps Ginny awkwardly to her feet. Is there some kind of parallel between one and the other? Does this mean that Harry feels weird when he touches Ginny. Because perhaps like Ron he likes the girl, just a little bit. Does anybody remember how weird it was when the person that you liked touched you? I do. Once Harry gets Ginny out of the chamber (notice that he was almost in a hurry to get her out of there) Harry is already concern for Ginny's ordeal and her future in Hogwarts. He refuses to tell Ron about it, even though he insisted, because Ginny was there. Harry seems really concern of Ginny's feelings rather odd for someone he hardly knows, again. I know that Harry is a good guy but to me it's a bit going far. Next I have to point out that it's no wonder that Ginny doesn't like teasing. Because once they are out of the chambers Ron's says to Ginny that she has competition on Moaning Myrtle. But Ron's dark sense of humor in this situation is really embarrassing not to mention depressing for someone that has gone thru such horrible experience like Ginny has. And still has probably more to come. Honestly the nerves! Once Harry gets to Dumbledore's office he tells them everything but when he is supposed to tell them about Ginny and the diary he panics when he realizes she could get expelled. He thinks of a way to get her out, but when he can't find a way he looks at Dumbledore who then goes on to ask how Voldemort enchanted Ginny. Upon hearing the words out of Dumbledore, Harry's feelings are described as 'Relief - Warm, sweeping, glorious relief -swept over Harry,' this are really powerful emotions for a situation he had little to do with and for someone that again he hardly has spoken much. I wouldn't be surprise if in future books we discovered that perhaps Harry maybe has liked Ginny all along. We don't know since when Harry talks or sees Ginny he always talks about her reactions we never find what he actually thinks of her. Is like Harry's thoughts on Ginny and her emotions or anything regarding anything about her, JKR have been carefully omitting it. We always get either cut off or the narrator is speaking. Suspicious. But I have a better explanation for that emotion. When getting out of the chamber, Ginny expresses her fear to be expelled. She comments to Harry that she has been waiting since Bill got into Hogwarts to go in there. So Ginny has been anxiously waiting to go into Hogwarts for a long time a very hard desire if you ask me. But if we go back at the beginning of that book when Harry is talking with Dobby we see how Harry needs to go back to Hogwarts. He tells Dobby that he has to go back he express his worries if someone will actually will come and get him when he is locked up. We feel his desire to go back to Hogwarts. So if you go then to the scene on were Harry expresses his concern over if they would expelled Ginny or not. His worries are actually based on that he can relate to her feelings of fear and despair of being expelled. He knows how it feels to know that you may never go back to the place. He loves Hogwarts and so does Ginny. These are the same feelings that Ginny is having at that moment. When he notices that Dumbledore understands him that he's trying to avoid mentioning Riddle's diary and Ginny's involvement for the fear that Ginny might be expelled and he can't prove Ginny's innocence. His feelings are this powerful because he can relate to Ginny's fear of being expelled and not be able to go back to Hogwarts. But now those fears can lay to rest now that he knows that she won't be expelled. It's curious how JKR made Harry understand and relate to Ginny's fears and desires to go to Hogwarts. This is not the only time she does it; she will do it again in future books. Where they also shared the same humor and they will share also the same taste in style all tied up with a magical bond. One thing I still don't understand is Mr. Weasley reaction when he is told that Voldemort enchanted Ginny. It almost sounds like he doesn't know his own daughter. He gets interrupted by Harry. My guess is we have a clue there that JKR conveniently avoided with Harry's interruption. JKR frequently interrupts a character to avoid telling more than it should. So I'm hoping this gets clarified in future books. But it sounds like something is wrong with Ginny. Because he points that the object is clearly an object of dark magic. We get hinted that Ginny must have known. And it's true Ginny is a pureblood witch. Ginny says that she didn't know. Which is rather odd. Doesn't sound like Ginny has weird things happening to her, but she has not said anything. Maybe those are the darkest secrets, she mention to Riddle. Also during the whole book and before Ginny is let to the hospital wing we get reminded that this time nobody died there is no lasting harm done, Dumbledore explained. How come? Riddle intentions were to kill Mudbloods, in fact he was able to do so the first time. Why the second time around he wasn't able? Does anybody else think this is weird? Did Ginny have anything to do with this? Could Ginny been handling things from another perspective? Too many questions little answers. We need book five. It is also really important that Dumbledore mentions later that the Weasley's are a wide known pure blood family. Interesting the Weasley's may have not much money but sure looks like their reputation is high. Once everything goes back to normal we are told that Ginny was 'perfectly happy again.' Since this books are from Harry's point of view. How did he know that she was happy before? Again he had not spoken more than a few words with her, how did he knew how her behavior was before? He had to be watching her and studying her if was able to make this deduction. Didn't he? Or does anybody else know another way? Also there is the problem that it seems like Ginny and Harry never talked about what happened in the chamber. In book 4 he talked to the Cedric parents and we get explanations and answers. In every other book yet this one there is no explanation of anything. We never get to know if Ginny ever thanks Harry or if she ever explained what happened. JKR gave a hatchet to this and jumped us to the end of the term. Once we are in the train Harry asks Ginny what was Percy hiding and Ginny giggle and tells that Percy's got a girlfriend. Looks like Ginny does have a playful side after all, perhaps Harry is right. She is happy person. But then we also get from the same chapter how incredibly naïve this girl still is. She asks FRED and GEORGE not to tease Percy. Right! She is described as anxious when she asks meaning that she realizes that she shouldn't have said anything. Well too late! On book three the first image we get of Ginny is on Diagon Alley, and again we get repeated again how much she likes Harry and again that she is the only girl and the youngest. Is there a point in this is all over the books. But the question is, what? We are again in hearing it from the narrator and once again we get cut off by Percy. Why can we just listen to what Harry thinks of her? After this when Mrs. Weasley points out that Percy is head boy, the idea of being prefects is suggested to the twins. Notice how Ginny giggles at their disgusted face. So Ginny does have a playful side. But then Mrs. Weasley downplays Ginny by telling them that they have to set out an example for their sister. Once again her character is downgraded and it gave some people the impression that Ginny is a character that need cared, when we were shown in the last book that she is strong all on her own. When the next morning arrived we know of Ginny, Hermione and Mrs. Weasley giggling about a love potion that Mrs. Weasley made when she was young. Hmmm third time that we hear about love potions, should we be on vigilance about this? But to more pressing issues. When Harry crosses the barrier we know that behind them come Percy and Ginny both panting from running. But when Percy sees his girlfriend he forgets about everything else he straightens himself up and goes out to meet her. "Ginny caught Harry's eye and they both turned away to hide their laughter" Well isn't this a nice mental picture. Harry and Ginny already shared humor and they still have hardly spoken to each other more than a few times. When the train pulls away Harry muttered to Ron and Hermione that he needs to talk to them. Well how considerate of him to only muttered so he wouldn't upset Ginny because he doesn't want to share with her his new discovery. But how incredibly stupid of him! Did he actually though that Ron wasn't going to say anything to Ginny. The poor girl just: "Oh, that's nice," said Ginny huffily and stalked off" Well isn't this nice of all three of you. Off course she was offended, who wouldn't. Now here is something interesting how should we take this scene. Many people say that this is the perfect example on how Harry never pays attention to Ginny and doesn't want her around. But since Harry never says anything to anybody we are going to let it slide. But if we consider how big Harry's trusting issues are. Then this doesn't come as a surprise. Harry doesn't even trust Dumbledore on the second task when he though that the hostages will died if not rescued. Ginny is just another example, on how Harry has it trusting people. Although I just feel for Ginny, if I was in her position. I would never talk to Ron again. But when the train stops and Ginny comes in the compartment, she says to Hermione that she's looking for Ron. Oh my, I can't believe her, doesn't this girl hold any grudges? I still would be furious at Ron. Why isn't she? This girl must have a very large forgiving heart because I wouldn't have looked for him, or maybe she was trying to escape from the Dementors that came behind her? In any case when Hermione suggest that she sits down, poor Ginny almost sits on Harry's lap! (Uuuu what a mental image!) Harry's says 'hurriedly' that he's there. What happened Harry? Nervous? Did you feel her almost sat down in top of you and got a nervous breakdown, or did she actually sat in top of you. Because Harry couldn't see, it was dark. So he must have felt her, then. Well those of us that were once thirteen will know how he felt. When the dementors come in, Harry describes Ginny and Neville as looking pale but Ginny is described looking as bad as Harry. Harry ask if anyone fall off their seat and when Ron replies that they didn't he points that Ginny was "shaking like mad, though." Oh, Oh, this doesn't sound good for Ginny. If doesn't look like she can't take well a dementor. Well considering what she went thru last year we can safely say that she does have a bit of dark reminders. I wonder if the dementors brought back Ginny some of the memories on how she did the things she did last year. Because it didn't look like she could remember them. Maybe the attack with the dementors brought back forgotten memories like it did to Harry. But it is interesting how Harry and Ginny can relate, once again to the other ones feelings. They both know what a dementor feels like. Another curious thing is that many described Ginny as a 'cry baby' but for a person that is described that way, she doesn't seemed that much of a 'cry baby' in this part. Sure she let out a sob but it wasn't as if she was hysterical. And if we consider Harry's reaction then it's considerably reasonable the way she acted. On our next scene Harry fainted in the Quidditch match and it's mentioned that: "Ginny Weasley, blushing furiously, turned up with a get-well card she made herself, which sang shrilly unless Harry kept it shut under his bowl of fruit." It's amazing, how many things JKR can include in just one sentence. First is the mentioning of Ginny as a Weasley again. Yes we know by now. Second Ginny's seems to have artistic abilities. A hand made get well card that sings? Interesting, how did she do that? Is this a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" kind of thing. And last but not least is Ginny's whole act of bringing him the card even with her embarrassment. She brought him a card because she can relate to his feelings when a Dementor gets near you. She knows how he felt. But many claim that this is proof that she did send the singing Valentine. But this unlike the singing valentine sounds a bit more artistic and not as insulting as the Valentine card. But Ginny didn't do this to embarrass him. She did it because she felt sorry for him and what he went thru. This is a matter of her relating to his feelings. On book 4 Harry arrives to the Burrow and meets Charlie and Bill. Bill specifically is described as 'Cool' and this comes in with a detail description of him. Interesting description we will see why I say this in a moment. Because after this Harry's sees Ginny and she is described as small and red-haired (this seems to be Harry's favorite description for Ginny, one can even joke that he is infatuated with her hair. He, he, he. Just joking or am I?) Upon Harry grinning back at Ginny and Hermione. Notice that we only get a description of Ginny's reaction. She is mentioned having gone 'scarlet' and goes on to described how Ginny was very taken with Harry ever since Harry's first visit to the burrow. Interesting Harry seems very sure that it was upon his first visit to the Burrow that Ginny started liking him. He doesn't seem to think that Ginny like him before that time. Which confirms what we said at the beginning of our analysis. After that we get 'conveniently' interrupted by Mrs. Weasley. Hmm, JKR uses again her traditional interrupting a character thoughts or words when they are about to say something that they shouldn't. I guess we will wait for all the other thoughts on this. But again notice that only Ginny's reaction is noted here, Hermione's is not even mentioned as if she grinned back or smile or what she does when Harry said hi. Harry simply describes Ginny. Well enough said. After that they all go upstairs and when Harry ask what are the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, Ron and Ginny burst out laughing but Hermione didn't. Ok, so it's now confirmed that Ginny does have a sense of humor. She found the humor on the whole incident event though she describes how serious the whole situation was afterwards. She tells how the only thing that the twins want to do is open a joke shop but she points out also that her mum is not happy because she wants them to work in the ministry of magic. Hmmm this sounds like problems to me and I sniff that Ginny will become involved in it. Since she has spend so much time with them. We will see why in a minute. Next when Harry gets to Ron's room he asks why is Ron's owl being called 'Pig'. Ginny responds by claiming that Ron is being stupid because the real name is 'Pigwidgeon' She had call him that way because she thought it was sweet, Ron points out. Interestedly enough, Ron tried to change it but Pig wouldn't hear it. Hmm! Ginny seems to have an easier way even with animals, she keeps on appearing like an easygoing person. Sounds very good for a H/G pairing. Next when Ron is about to ask for Sirius. Hermione makes him realize that he shouldn't because Ginny was there, he shuts up. But Ginny realized that there was something odd going on because she looks from Harry to Ron curiously. So she isn't stupid she knows that they shut up because she was there. Next when Bill and Charlie are having the 'table fight' Ginny is they're laughing among with Fred, George and Hermione. What is curious is the comparison between Ginny and Hermione. Assuming that Hermione comes from a small family (Hey! nobody usually has such a large family as the Weasley's ) she never has seen such wild ways but Ginny not only seems used to it, she laughs about it too. Ginny sounds like a very happy person that can take things seriously when it's needed too. Next in the table Harry notice that Mrs. Weasley is arguing with Bill about his earring. Mrs. Weasley doesn't seem too fond of Bill's style. Harry likes it, though. And it looks like Ginny likes it too. Because when Mrs. Weasley offers to cut Bill's hair, Ginny points out that she likes it, she calls her mum 'old fashioned and says that is nowhere near long as Dumbledore's hair'. Interesting how Ginny and Harry can relate again. This time on the same taste of style. It's curious how this two think alike and they don't speak much to each other. I wonder what would happened when they finally discover how much alike they are? Next morning when Ginny comes downstairs notice that Harry says that her and Hermione came down both looking pale and drowsy but note that after that only Ginny's actions are noted. We hear how she asks why do they have to wake up early while she rubbed her eyes and sits. JKR makes them be together but in the last few appearances. Note that only Ginny's reactions or actions are being looked at. Harry's attention is following Ginny. Next when out of Mrs. Robert's store. Ginny points out that she thought Mr. Bagman was head of magical games and sports and he should know better than to talk about bludgers and magical stuff around muggles. Mr. Weasley agrees with her. This is another interesting thing that we have pointed before but have proof now. Ginny may have her playful side but it looks like she can also take things seriously. And this looks like it's serious. She seems to be like the listener type and once again Ginny makes the right assumption. The girl is smart. It's confirmed then, Bagman should be careful to talk about those things around Muggles. This girl is like a combination of Hermione and Ron personalities interesting. When they get to the place where the tent goes and after it's set up Mr. Weasley suggest to the trio to look for water while the others look for wood for fire. So Harry, Ron and Hermione go for water and Fred, George and Ginny look for wood for fire. Make a note on that since it will be important later on. When Harry, Ron and Hermione come back from getting the water, notice that George tell them that they have 'been ages' out. Actually George they weren't gone all that much. Note that also, we will need it later. Next we continue with Mr. Weasley presenting everybody to Ludo Bagman after he presents "my son Percy" Mr. Weasley goes on to present his other children but when he get's to Ginny he says 'my daughter Ginny'. What an obsession JKR seems to have to remind everybody that Ginny is the only daughter and a Weasley. After it, Ludo let the twins make a bet that Krum will catch the Snitch but Ireland will win. Ludo jokes about the bet not being possible on real life, but the twins make it anyway. But in the Quidditch World Cup that is exactly the result. Ireland wins but Krum catches the snitch. Hmm! So how did the twins new about that? Even when Ludo thought that their predictions had no future he let them made the bet, but as it turns out they were right. Ok, so point taken on that, let's continue. After everyone get back Ginny is mentioned to have fallen asleep and spilling her chocolate on the floor. Well was it really that late or was she exhausted after all the days activities? Mr. Weasley sends everybody to bed. But later they all get up again when the mess on the Muggle family is being put up in the air. In that chapter they all start to walk away from the trouble that is coming to them. Fred grabbed Ginny's hand and pulls her toward the woods. They are all following them and suddenly Ron yells with pain and falls. After that they loose Fred, George and Ginny. Since we know that nothing on these books are a coincidence by now. Ron didn't really trip, someone made him trip, and it strikes as curious that exactly after that they loose Fred, Ginny and George. Both of the times that Fred and George set out into the woods Ginny is with them. Then at the end of the chapter it's mentioned how they got back, ok. Unhurt but shaken. George was behind Harry and Ron and Hermione, then out of the nowhere he disappears along with Fred and Ginny that were on front. Does anybody else think it's suspicious? I do. Does Ginny have anything to do with the twins knowing the outcome of the Quidditch World Cup? I hope this get's clarified in book five because the suspense is killing me. Ginny is almost all the time with the twins. She knows what the store means to them very well. In the Ron and Harry fight, Ron also picked up how important this was to them. So it worries me because since Ginny seems to have a kind heart. There could be the plot possibility that the twins were help by Ginny on this. Hope they didn't do anything illegal or dangerous. The Sunday evening before they are supposed to return to Hogwarts Percy comment on how things have been after the Quidditch World Cup. He says that they have been sending Howlers. Ginny interrupts him to ask him why are they sending Howlers, while she fixes with spellotape a copy of One thousands magical herbs and Fungi. I say it again it's amazing how many things JKR incorporates on one sentence. Several things here; first we know what kind of classes Ginny takes. She has a herbs book on her hands, so we know she takes Herbology. Second even though she is concentrated on fixing the book she is listening to what Percy is saying. Meaning that she does listen well. Third she asks a question. It proves that Ginny is a good listener and that she asks questions when she is on doubt or wants to know more. It proves also that we are right when we assumed that when Ron was talking about Harry, Ginny was listening and she was probably asking questions and making assumptions. Ginny almost disappears from the book after that and comes back again on chapter twenty when she is mention-having breakfast with Hermione. Ginny and Hermione seem to have become very good friends. On chapter twenty two we see Harry come into the common room to find Ron with an ashen-face and Ginny is with them. She is mention talking to him in a low soothing voice. Hmmm! Low soothing voice, nice description if you compare it with how he described Hermione voice at the beginning of the book 'shrilly and panicky' was his description of it. But Ginny's voice sounds really good not only on Harry's ears but on mine too. Who wouldn't want to talk to someone like that? Ginny's voice description is very pretty. But isn't odd that in four books he now notices Ginny's voice and gives us a description of it. Yet Ginny's actions and tone seem to be very soothing and comforting. I don't think Harry has ever described anyone with so many nice adjectives all thru the books as much as Ginny. When Harry asks what happened. Ginny answers him that Ron asked Fleur Delacour to go the ball with him. She is described as fighting back a smile but she kept on patting Ron's arm sympathetically. Interesting again, not only does she have a low soothing voice Ginny is also gentle on her touch. Ginny seems to have an easier way almost with everybody. After Ron explains how he did it. Harry mentions that he just came from inviting Cho Chang to the ball and Ginny stops smiling. Poor Ginny she was probably laughing at Ron's fiasco and the second after that Harry destroy her world when she realizes that Harry likes another girl. I really, really can relate to that. It's awful when you realize that the boy you like likes someone else. I feel for this girl. One curious note is that when Harry is telling Ron about Cho. He says: "I asked her to go with me just now," Harry said dully "and she told me." Ginny had suddenly stop smiling. She told Harry what? Harry's train of though got interrupted when he realized that Ginny had stopped smiling. Why does Harry stopped talking when realizing that Ginny has stop smiling? Isn't this odd? Even more when Ron tells him that Neville invited Hermione he still is 'distracted'. Curious. Next Ron starts to make fun at poor Neville who asked Hermione to the ball. Ginny ask them not too mock Neville and just then Hermione comes in asking why they missed dinner. Ginny is quick to respond that: "Because -oh shut up laughing you two-because they've both just turned down by girls they asked to the ball" said Ginny. That shut Harry and Ron up. Well there you have it boys for making fun of Neville. Ginny just shut you up. Or was she making fun of them for not inviting the right girls to the ball? Either way this is the perfect example how Ginny's crush is not hero related. No "hero related crush" person would do a thing like this. Yes Ginny likes him but she is not willing to stand behind him if he's doing something wrong. Or if she made fun of him because he didn't invite her is still proves that Ginny is not always willing to stand on Harry's feet. The most probable explanation is that she was getting back at them for making fun of Neville since we know by now how much Ginny doesn't like teasing and for some other reason we will see in a moment. After the Ron and Hermione little argument Ron suggest that Hermione is lying on her date to the ball. Ginny points out that she is not, but refuses to say who it is. Interesting Hermione confide to Ginny her date to the ball, it looks like this two are already great friends. Ginny seems to be the person on which everybody confides their troubles and secrets. Wonder if Harry will do the same when they get closer. Why does everybody confides in her their personal things? Ron suggests that Ginny goes with Harry. But Ginny says she can't, because she is going with Neville. Oh my god! No wonder she was so angry that they were making fun of Neville. She is Neville's date to the ball. It's curious also that if she would really have a hero related crush she would have dropped Neville and go with Harry, but she didn't. She stood by her date even when her heart was probably breaking into a million pieces. The fact that at Ron suggestion (which Harry never complained, if I may add) Ginny flats out turned it's down. It is a saying that this is not a hero related kind of affair. But next Ginny admits the real reason why she accepted and it's not because she liked Neville. Ginny was just a second guess after Hermione turn him down. She accepts that since she is not on fourth year she is not going to be able to go anyway, so she accepted. The girl is honest on her explanation and not only deserves a star it also gives us another trade of her personality. Ginny doesn't like Neville but even being a second guess she just want to go for the sake of going. Because otherwise she is not going to be able to go, since she is not on fourth year. She is honest. After that Ginny is described as looking extremely miserable and heads out to lunch. And here is something interesting. Ginny consoles Ron on his fiasco but when Ginny needs consoling she is alone. Ron doesn't go after her. Ron knows how she feels about Harry and even then he doesn't go and comfort her. In less than ten minutes Ginny finds out that Harry likes another girl, that he invited her to the ball. That she could have gone to the ball with him if she wouldn't have had a date already. Can anybody imagine how she feels? It must be awful. But is no wonder that Ginny fell so easy on the diary trap. There is no one there that consoles her. No wonder she said to Riddle that no one ever understood her like him. No one listens to her. Hope Hermione was somewhere around at least one person that lift up her mood. I feel terrible for her. But the pain doesn't stop there in the Yule ball Ginny is mentioned frequently wincing as Neville step on her feet. So not only she didn't get to go with Harry, she knows he likes another girl and on top of that her date squashed out all her feet. This must be one of those moments in your life were you wish they would erased completely. I seriously doubt that after that there is any possibility for Ginny and Neville. Last thing we know about Ginny is that once again she is there with Fred and George for the last task. And from here on JKR disappears Ginny completely. Curiously enough she doesn't turn on the hospital wing, she is not mention to even been seen for the rest of the semester or anywhere on the book. She is not there on the train or on the train station or nowhere to be found. A girl so protected like Ginny is nowhere to be seen or mention, after an evil dark wizard comes back to power I don't think this is coincidence or that JKR dropped Ginny. I find it very curious that Ginny disappeared exactly when Voldemort return to power. Like I said before nothing on these books are coincidental. JKR makes them happen for a reason. A couple of questions though come into mind. Does Voldemort return have anything to do with Ginny's disappearance? Does the connection that Ginny had with Riddle with the diary serves any purpose know? It isn't economic writing disappearing a character on one book and then give him or her a bigger part on the next book. I think that Ginny's next appearance is going to bring back a lot of answers to our questions and more than one surprise. So I will follow whoever said "BRING ON THE GINNY!" Gily Ann |
